Dan and Fiona reach new heights conquering Mount Snowdon

When Dan and I signed up to climb Snowdon, we had visions of beautiful blue skies and panoramic views of Snowdonia National Park when we reached the summit. We’d even been sharing weather reports the night before and over breakfast, both of which promised high visibility!

The reality was very different. We were met with rain before we had even reached Pen y Pass car park. If we hadn’t had been walking for a good cause, I may well have decided this wasn’t for me after all.

Nonetheless, we put on our hiking boots and our somewhat mis-sold waterproof coats and met with our mountain guides, all of which were brilliant at what they do. After a safety briefing, getting our numbered armbands for identification, and many attempts at headcount, we set off.

The paths were not what I expected. I hadn’t envisaged climbing through waterfalls and scaling the side of rocks, but at least I can now add mountain climbing to the list of interests on my CV.

Plenty of laughter and snacks got us through, and we eventually reached the summit. We couldn’t see a thing, as the weather forecast wasn’t quite as promised, but what a fantastic feeling holding the Julia’s House banner on the top of Snowdon. It was such a great achievement, made even more rewarding by doing it for such a brilliant cause.  I just hope my knees recover in time for next year!

Dan Burden, Senior Underwriter, added:
“It was great to join our Foundation colleagues on the Snowdon hike and raise more money for Julia’s House! The hike itself was challenging, and the weather on the way up certainly didn’t help, but once we reached the summit it was worth it.  We were also treated to some brilliant views on the way back down.

Everyone was in high spirits and supported one another through the challenging parts of the day, making it even more rewarding when we all celebrated completing the challenge together.”

A huge thank you goes to Sabrina and Laura from Foundation for organising the hike, and a massive well done to everyone who completed it. What an incredible accomplishment!
